Eco-Friendly Approach

The environment and the decline of our earth’s resources are a big issue and hard to consciously ignore. I decided I did not want to be just another company that made the same product as everyone else without thinking about the environment.

As with many people from my generation, I am much more conscious today about where my food and the products I buy come from, how they are produced, and what impact they have on the environment. As a business owner, I choose to head in the direction of eco-friendly manufacturing. That’s why I use 100% organic cotton fabric, and 100% organic flax seeds and herbs. In addition to the environmental reasons, using organic materials that are free of pesticides and harsh chemicals is crucial to making my packs as healthy as possible. I also use 100% biodegradable plastic bags, 100% post consumer waste shipping boxes, 100% post consumer waste for all my office paper use; copy paper, invoices, packing slips, and FSC certified papers for my business cards and other printed marketing materials. I also recycle any of the fabric waste from the manufacturing process.

I’m the first one to admit that I am far from perfect, and taking the eco-friendly route is very challenging, hard to find good resources, more expensive, and sometimes, it’s just not possible. For instance, the thread I use for closing the packs isn’t organic. I just can’t find a supplier of colored organic thread that works well in my surging equipment. As soon as someone makes it, I’ll use it.

I believe that being eco-friendly is not an end result, but an evolutionary process that changes as different opportunities and new technologies come to market. So I do what I can, where I can, and I try to educate myself on how to improve and what changes I can make.
